 1   while exploring the preserve you think you catch a glimpse of someone from your past that you never wanted to see again.   you and a character from a different faction are caught up in a bar fight between two locals.   you find a sickly looking stray black cat. something about it seems wrong and you keep seeing it everywhere you go.

  while checking out krystal's crystal ball, you witness a strange child stealing random supplies.   you're walking home alone at night when a thick fog rolls in, bringing with it an overwhelming sense of unease and nausea.

  someone or something has been tapping at one of your windows at 3:05AM every night for the last two weeks. no matter how hard you try to catch them, they are gone before you can find out who is behind it.

 2   you receive a phone call warning you to leave the island of old haven and get as far away as possible. the weirdest part is the voice sounded like a long dead loved one.   you're alone at the docks but you can't shake the feeling of being watched.

(character is temporarily paranoid and loses 10% of their "wits" score)
  you're in benny's botanicals when a cult member comes in and screams at benny in a language that doesn't sound entirely human before before rushing out. shaken up, benny asks you to leave so he can close the shop early. you can't help but feel like something has followed you home.

(character is now haunted)
  while exploring the abandoned fairgrounds you're startled and fall into a cluster of strange mushrooms that immediately shoot out a spore-y dust upon contact. your skin breaks out in angry hives and you come down with a nasty, nasty cold.

(character loses 20% of their physical health score if they are alive and 10% if they are undead)
  a local elderly man's kids have decided to have an estate sale to fund their father's medical care. you are inexplicably drawn to one of his late wife's lockets. you buy it but you can't get it open.

(character is obsessed with the item and will lose 10% of their "wits" score every week until they figure out how to open the locket)
  while home alone, you hear music playing from another room but as you search out the source of the sound, it keeps moving. the music is unidentifiable but oddly familiar... strangely enough, you find it comforting.

(character is calmed and regains up to 20% of their "wits" score and 10% of their humanity if undead)
 3   you are going about your day as usual when at the stroke of noon, you are compelled to pick up the phone and dial a number you do not know. after three rings an unknown voice answers and asks "what do you offer?"

you tell the stranger your darkest secret, after which they simply hang up without a word.

  you dream of a happy memory but it's as if you're watching a play. you can't change anything happening or interact with the scene before you even if you really want to. as the memory plays out before you, you realize you aren't the only one watching... just out of the corner of your eye you keep catching sight of a cloaked figure.

(upon waking up your character is rattled and loses 10% of their "wits" score)
  you and a character from the same faction find yourselves at the treeline drive-in but despite the long line at the concessions stand, you two are the only ones in the lot for the movie...

(both characters go missing for 2 in game days. during these days, the two missing characters will experience a completely empty island and are unable to contact the other characters.)
  you stop into the tea room for brunch on a surprisingly busy weekday. it takes a little bit of a wait but eventually you are seated. unfortunately, the moment your order arrives to the table a featureless stranger sits down across from you. no one else seems to notice the stranger as they begin to whisper to you about great things to come...

  while enjoying the cool evening air, a sickly looking stray black cat approaches you. as you examine the poor creature, you can't help but notice how thin and cold it is...

 4   you just happen to be passing by the old haven chapel the day before a big wedding. workers are setting up for the upcoming festivities and you find yourself watching the hub-bub for a few moments. in the midst of everyone working, you catch a glimpse of a mangled and bloodied humanoid creature. you blink once and it's gone, but the sight of its horrendous form is seared into your mind...

(character is temporarily paranoid and loses 20% of their "wits" score if alive. if character is undead, they are merely frustrated by the event)
  you're riding your bike when all of a sudden a sickly looking stray black cat runs across your path and as you swerve to miss it, you fall off your bike and are injured.

(roll a D6. on a 1 or 2 you are severely injured and lose 30% of your physical health score. if you roll a 3 you are moderately injured and lose 20%. if you roll a 4 or a 5 you are only mildly injured and lose 10%. if you roll a 6 you simply scrape up your leg. regardless of score, you immediately lose sight of the cat)
  you're at the thrift store looking for some warmer clothes for the colder days ahead when suddenly you are drawn to the toy aisle. there, you find a strange board game you've never heard of. you leave the game there and go about shopping. you checkout and go home where you find the game somehow ended up in one of your bags.

  you volunteer to help set up a fundraising event at the old haven town hall. a stranger asks you to go to the basement to see if there are anymore folding chairs down there. while in the basement, the door slams shut and the lights go out...

  you are awaken in the middle of the night to the sound of your own screaming...   gladys mooney needs a favor.

  while at the farmer's market you are arrested. the cops keep calling you by someone else's name and refuse to believe you when you tell them they have the wrong person. you are taken to the old haven police station and lead to an interrogation room. you spend several hours in the room before getting fed up and opening the door. the officers who arrested you are nowhere to be seen and what's more, no one's even heard of 'em. naturally, the police who are present seem incredibly confused and annoyed by your presence.

(character is now on thin ice with the local goons in blue)
  while driving home you hear something smack into the side of your car. upon investigating you find a sickly looking stray black cat laying prone on the ground. the animal is in horrible shape and you rush it to the vet. upon arrival however, other than looking old and dirty, the cat appears totally fine.   you're sitting alone at the docks at sunset and reminiscing about a time where you overcame a difficult time in your life. as you watch the setting sun paint the ocean different colors, you walk down memory lane.

(you leave the docks feeling calmed and regain 10% of your "wits" score)
  you arrive home to find the electricity is out and the place is hauntingly quiet. as you try to get to the fuse box, you are attacked by a large fleshy mass.

roll a D6. on an even number you manage to fight off the attacker and it flees, but not before you manage to catch a glimpse of its horrifying form. you lose 20% of your "wits" score. on a odd number you are knocked out by the attacker before you are able to get a good look at it. you wake up in the hospital the next day after suffering severe blood loss. lower your physical health score 20%.
  you're at a flea market looking through the artisanal goods thinking about someone you love. suddenly you find the perfect gift for them...

 6   you're decorating outside for halloween when suddenly you disturb a large colony of spiders. the creatures swarm you in an impossibly large black crawling mass as you try desperately to get them off of you and panic sets in. then just as soon as they appeared, they are gone.

make a "wits" roll. if you wits are 60% or higher, you roll with advantage. 40-60% is a straight roll and anything below 40% you rill with disadvantage.

on a successful roll you laugh the encounter off. on a failed roll you are temporarily paranoid
  a new neighbor's kid keeps walking into your place, the door magically unlocked no matter how many times you check it. when you go to the neighbor's house to ask them to keep a better eye on their kid, you find out that the only person living there is an angry old man.   a dog steals your bagel and you chase him down the street, tripping on another dog in the process. the first dog doubles back and drops your bagel on your chest and trots off in one direction and the second dog goes in the direction you were headed. you get up with half a mind to chase after one or both of the dogs but upon putting your weight on your feet, you realize you've broken a bone in one of your feet. (you lose 10% physical health and are stuck wearing a walking cast)  on your walk home, you are stopped by a 10 foot tall gray beast who claims to be a demon sent to kill you. he drops a glowing red orb and you pick it up, realizing immediately that you now have control of the "demon" for the night. rather than attacking someone or figuring out who sent the the demon, you take the demon with you to mama mary's and have a nice meal together.  you're running late to a pot-luck where you've agreed to bring your signature dish. in your hustle to get there on time, you accidentally swap out salt for sugar, ruining the dish. everyone is horrified and grossed out by this dish except for nancy mclean who loves it and decides to offer you a reward in exchange for the recipe

 while staring at a pond in old haven memorial park, you notice something shiny inside and dive into the pond to get a closer look. you pull out a silver bone that fills your head with thoughts of murder until you drop it. do you leave the bone there or take it with you?

 7  while checking out the old fairgrounds you find an old magician's wand and think nothing of it, put it in your coat pocket and keep exploring. the next time you are in public wearing the jacket, the wand falls out of your pocket and pick it up accidentally pointing it at a stranger who says "abracadabra" in a joking voice. upon them saying the magic word, their front teeth grow longer, they sprout bunny ears, and a bunny tail. do you test it out on another person or opt not to say the words yourself lest it works against you?  you wake in the middle of the night to get a glass of water only to find that there's a goldfish in your glass. the goldfish whispers a lullaby to you and you're lulled back to sleep.

upon waking your kitchen has flooded but your physical health and "wits" scores are fully restored
 you receive a call from a blocked number. the moment you look at your phone, you realize you've picked up without touching anything at all. before the phone is even to your ears, you hear a child laughing and feel something cold and wriggly in your hand where your phone should be. you drop the phone and watch a snake slither away

( character loses their phone for the entire day and 10% of their "wits")
  hearing a strange noise in your closet, you go to investigate and find a small bat trapped in your clothes. you try to help free the bat but it bites you in its fear, giving you a strange rash. the doctor tells you it's nothing but you're convinced something is very wrong...

(roll a d10, if it is 1-3 you lose 20% health, if it is 4-6 you lose 10% heath, if it is 7-10 you only have a surface level scratch but do lose 10% wits in your obsession over the bite)
 an old lady insists today is your birthday and gives you a cake much to your insistence that she's gotten you mistaken for someone else. as soon as she's gone, you see the cake says "fuck you mildred."

 you are on a walk when you're cornered by a group of middle schoolers who taunt you and dare you to go to the carter house to prove you're not a big baby. before you know it, they're leading you to the house telling you stories about it and terrifying you in the process. they shove you toward the building but you are frozen with terror.

roll a D6. on an even number, you overcome your fear and tell the kids to fuck off. on an odd number you wet yourself.
 you find a rather large 4'x4' box on your doorstep. the package's address is easily identifiable as the main building at the prism property. do you go through the hassle of delivering it yourself, call the cult and ask them to pick it up, or keep it for yourself?

 you fall asleep at the old haven library and wake up after everyone has left for the night and the exits locked. with nothing to do but wait, you decide to explore the back rooms of the library. underneath a rug, you find a broken floorboard and stick your hand inside to find an innocent looking children's book. upon opening the book you are cursed by the book until you can convince someone to physically take it from you.   you wake in the middle of the night in the middle of the preserve barefoot and in pajamas. you're holding a teddy bear you've never seen before and as long as you hold onto the teddy bear you can see a path illuminated through the woods however if you let go of the bear you cannot see it. something in your gut tells you to head in the opposite direction.

 9   while waiting for a ferry at the docks, someone on a small boat arrives and asks you to help them take sacks of mail to the post office offering a ride to the mainland in exchange. you help the postal worker who disappears the moment you arrive at the prism property. when you go to the post office to deliver the mail, you are handed a box with a boat key in it.

(you have acquired one small boat but be careful, if you don't know how to drive it, it is VERY easy to crash)
  while on a morning walk, you find a severed hand and call the police. they refuse to come out believing it to be a prank. later that day, you notice a fake hand with ketchup on it tied to your front door

  you wake up tomorrow morning to find the island full of strangers. no one recognizes you and you do not recognize a single person here. when you try to call any of the contacts in your phone, the line is busy. your texts do not send. you search for traces of your friends and the people you've come to know on the island, but the more you look the more distrustful the people who are here become.

the next day you wake up and everything is returned to normal but you are now temporarily paranoid
  you go to mama mary's diner for lunch one day to find gladys is apparently hosting a charity raffle. the winner gets free breakfast for life so you enter the raffle. the next day you receive a large box wrapped in green wrapping paper with a green bow on it. the note attach says you win!

effects:
  • paranoid -character becomes agitated and distracted, as such any intelligence based rolls will be made with disadvantage until paranoia effect wears off. if a character is paranoid about a fixed location, any roll made in that location will be made with disadvantage. temporary paranoia will only effect the next 2 rolls made within a week of the effect taking place before wearing off.

  • cursed -character feels a sense of dread that makes their stomach weak and their limbs feel like lead, as such any physical/strength based rolls will be made with disadvantage until cursed effect wears off. as with paranoia, the temporary curse effect will only effect the next 2 rolls made within a week of the effect taking place before wearing off.

  • obsessed -regardless of character's goals, the object of their obsession becomes their main priority. a character may behave erratically or get aggressive if someone tries to come between them and the object of obsession.

  • haunted -you got some kinda ghost or somethin' sticking to you like caramel on an apple. that's rough bud. the longer a character remains haunted, the more their grip on reality begins to slip.
